Free! Internet was created in the 70s as a military project. It started as about 3 computers at that time. Right now there are millions of machines on the internet. When considering a web hosting, a few things is important. No.1 is the reliability. Some hosting companies are not reliable. The might deleted your store without notification someday. And you might lost your business. The second is the speed. If the server is slow, it will drive your customers mad and they will not buy. Which is better, you ask. They both have strong and weak points. I started out with Dream weaver and then eventually switched to Golive, mainly because all the adobe products (photo shop, image ready, golive, etc) talk to each other while designing. So it just makes things easier. Another advantage is the products can be exposed to a large number of potential customers. Suppose you live in a town with 10,000 people. This is not very small town in the US. You have something to sell but within the 10,000 people, only 0.01% people may be interested in your product. Not only that it¡¯s pretty pointless to have a spar of words when so many people in this forum already know our intentions. I think the general consensus is we don¡¯t shut down new designers and we do help but this is no attempt to justify us. They make you dependent on proprietary software to both manage and build your sites, when html, css, etc, can be just as easily edited with a nice text editor. The result is cleaner, more portable code, and a far stronger understanding of what you are doing. I have become a much better webmaster and designer since I stopped depending on the software to do it for me. Now almost everybody have a web. Some people just have a lot of websites. Some web sites provide articles to read. Some web sites are forums of special topics. Some sites are stores or shopping mall where you can buy whatever you like. Having a good design is important for a store. When people are pleased with the looking of the stores, they are more likely to buy. But good design is not essential for a business. The most important part is good products and services. I didn't realize that Adobe was going to kill GoLive. I assumed they¡¯d keep the products separate to make more money. I¡¯m glad that only one will survive because, I¡¯m sure, in an effort to cut costs both products would suffer w/o the competition to make them better. I was just watching The Good The Bad & The Ugly just yesterday. I love watching those Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns. The IP is the phone number. If one computer like to talk another, he will dial the number of the other computer. If the computer responds, then they established a connection, in other words, a phone call. What should we avoid when shopping online? First, try to buy products from sellers with good reputation. When you buy on ebay, make sure to buy from sellers with an overall good rating. Usually good sellers should have an overall more than 95% positive feedbacks. Overall I agree with Ulysses. But your navigation bar starts of lined up with that grey bar over the white box and then continues on to float into nothingness (It looked like it was supported by the grey bar and then, weee we're floating in space!). |
