Chinese calligraphy come from writing Chinese characters. The Chinese characters come from the painting. At the very beginning, people have an intuition about writing Chinese characters well. But later, as they found that Chinese characters have something more than just a good looking, Chinese calligraphy was born.

And outside of the rooms, you can see Chinese calligraphy works in tablets and sign of shops everywhere in China. In China, it's an unwritten regulation to have good Chinese calligraphers to write notes, signs and anything of events, small or big.

Chinese calligraphy are never been more popular in the western world. I met some people who practiced Chinese calligraphy for years and loved it, without even knowing what the characters meaning.
