In China, one can not call the name of a family member. For example, you can not call your dad his name. You can only mention his name to other people outside of your family. Ant in English may also mean the wife of uncle. In Chinese, wife of your father's elder brother is called Da Niang or Bo Mu. wife of your father's younger brother is called Shen Zi or Shen Shen.

The wedding custom is different even at different village near to each other in China. Of course, they are similar. But it is very often that people are confused in a wedding a few miles away from home.

In English, uncle means the brother of your father or mother. But in Chinese, brothers of your father or mother are made very clear. If a person is an elder brother of your father, you should call him Bo Fu or Da Ye. If a person is a younger brother of your father, you should call him Shu Shu.

In China, one can not call a senior or older relative their names. They should be call as something like uncle, ant, grandma and so on. Calling a senior relative as Mr. something is regarded as very impolite.
